Adaptations of Animals

November28

Believe it or not…. This animal is very cute but VERY lazy.

A greyish fur to camouflaged into trees you can barely see it, it’s so lazy. By the way this animal is not a bear.

A Koala

Name and classification of Animal:

The name of the animal I am researching is a Koala. Koalas are Marsupials (they are when a animal is found in Australia, New Guinea and also in America). Their scientific name is Phascolarctos cinereus, I think it is very hard to pronounce. They have small eyes, greyish fur, shaggy ears, rough pads for gripping gum trees and a big black nose.

Physical appearance:

This is sort of connected to classification.

Greyish fur to camouflage to trees, Pouch to raise its young, Shaggy ears, No tail so it doesn’t get in the way when resting on trees and branches, Koalas have 2 thumbs on its front paws that help them grip on the branches, The sharp parts on their claws dig into the branches and tree trunks to help them climb and move across branches.

Diet:

Koalas eat Eucalyptus leaves even though there are only 700 species of Eucalyptus leaves in Australia, Koalas will eat up to 50 leaves. Eucalyptus leaves have a high level of moisture, fibre and high in nutrients.

Environment:

Koalas are endangered by loss of suitable habitat. Filled with Gumtrees and gum leaves. They are also very exposed to bushfires, which is very sad.

Structural, behavioural and Physiological Adaptations

Structural, behavioural and psychological adaptations have to connect at some stage. I have been told to put them into headings though.

Structural Adaptations

When attracting a mate the male has a scent that is very strong, he also makes a loud grunting noise. They have thickish/waterproof fur to keep them warm but not to warm and dry.

Behavioural Adaptations

Koalas live in a community where another dies one doesn’t take over. It takes a year for the scent to fade and then another group can move into the area.

Koalas climb tall trees to get food, shelter and avoid predators from the ground.

Physiological Adaptations

Rough pads on the palms and soles of the paws helping to grip tree branches and tree trunks.

Fun facts:

  • Koalas sleep up to 20 hours a day
  • A koalas size is 60-85cm long
  • Joes live in their mothers pouch and at the rear end they have a gap and when they relax the joey can get out but when they tense up the muscle the gap closes and the Joey can not get out.

I hope you learnt something new. What did you not know?.

Christmas poem

November19

Christmas is nearly here,

the year has gone so quickly

having fun with family, laughing to jokes and seeing people enjoy them selves,

a level of happiness is high,

people mucking around in the pool trying to cool off,

filled with food,

waiting to be allowed to play with our new things.

chatter filling my ears.

Outside on the grass, bouncing on the trampoline and playing basketball.

The day is nearly over, we should be happy while it lasts,

need to wait 57 weeks and it will happen all over again.

Time to go to sleep it has been a good day,

when we wake up we can play with our new things  (instead of being on screens).

Christmas is great

Christmas

November19

Hello,

For week 7 blogging challenge we had to write about the celebrations or festivals we celebrate.

I celebrate Christmas, it is on the 25th of December every year and when you wake up under the tree which is  decorated, on the 24th of December night someone puts presents under the tree and when you wake up you open them with your family. Normally in Australia  Christmas day is hot. Christmas is about giving and spending time with your family.

Some desserts people have are Pavlova which is crispy Meringue, cream and then fruits on the top, I have that, because my Grandma makes the best Pavlova.

This is what I do on Christmas day:

in the morning, I can’t help but go down and look at the presents and then of course my Mum wakes up and she comes and looks with me, I also peek at all the stockings, I see what shape, size the presents are under the tree. In the morning we also take our dog Arlo for a walk after we open presents and the 2019 Christmas celebrate it with our family. We chill out by the pool, eat yummy snacks and meals, have chats, laugh, And my family is very musical so there is always some sort of performance but my sister and I aren’t very talented so we just watch. And of course Christmas it all about giving but every kid likes receiving gifts.

What celebrations do you celebrate?

Sovereign Hill Ballarat

July29

Sovereign Hill Camp

Hi all I am going to tell you about my experience at Sovereign Hill Ballarat.

The whole of the year 5’s went to sovereign hill to learn about history of the gold rush.

On the way we went to the m.a.d.e museum ( museum of Australia Democracy at Eureka) it was amazing we saw a piece of gold that weighs 69.9 kg. We saw the real eureka flag made by 3 women and no one knew about it.

On the first day we were there we had lunch then went on 2 tours a gold mine tour and we learned about mine shafts what they looked like and then we went on a secret chamber tour and they were both amazing and dark being underground. Then some of my friends and I went and watched them make Raspberry Drops and did some research as my partner and I are doing a diagram of the shop and factory. They use sugar, water, glycols, colouring and flavour to make them. Then we had some free time I went and tried gold panning I wasn’t lucky. We looked at what we wanted to buy the next day.

We went and had dinner at the New York Bakery and it was chicken schnitzel, gravy and vegetables. For desert we had brownie 🥕🥦🐓🍫 then we went to bed and I was in a cabin with Tilly, Tash, Taylor, Lorelei and Hazel we talked for a while then we went to bed. I slept horrible I moved a lot in my sleeping bag and it annoyed people.

We woke up at 6:00am to go to breakfast at the Sovereign Hill cafe I had Nutri grain it was good. Then we went back to our cabin and hanged out, during that time Tilly did our braids in all of the girls hair in our cabin for the school education at St Peters denominational school we also tidied our room for inspection and got our bags packed as we were leaving the next day. We went to a school house to get dressed up in 1850s children school clothes and then we went for a look around the diggings in the morning but then it started to rain so we had to go into the theatre and we did some history things then it stopped and we went to school at sovereign Hill St Peters denominational school. We lined up silently in two lines boys and girls then height order then walked in and told the headmistress our names and she told us where to sit. We learnt how to do calligraphy writing with a chalkboard and chalk. Then we did some sewing and it was difficult at start but then I got the hang of it. We then had snack and we got a muffin and an apple we skipped on the skipping rope and then went inside. We did some more handwriting. We practiced reciting out 16 times tables and were told that would be our homework. We went out of the school and up to the Sovereign Hill cafe and had Party pies for lunch then we had 20 minutes of free time and we were part of the museum because we were dressed in the 1850’s clothes. People asked us for photos. Then we had to be back at the school gates and lined up in boy girl lines and then height order by 1 o’clock. We walked in and did sewing for a bit then we read a book. We had a break and did more skipping. We went in and did some preparing for the vicar to come in tomorrow and see how school is doing. We were then dismissed from school and got changed out of our outfits and got into our casual clothes. We got given our money and went and brought things I bought a sign and some boiled lollies.

Then we had dinner and it was spaghetti, chips and salad for dessert we had vanilla sponge, then we went back to our cabin then got ready for the light and sound show. It was amazing we watched a 3D video and it was cool and then went on a mini bus to another show and saw this bird history projected onto a hill. Then went to this really cool show and it showed the Eureka Hotel burning down they also had guns firing but it was just air bullets and it frightened me. It finished about 9:30 and I was so tied we went on the mini buses and they went straight to our cabins and we went inside and got ready for bed and we fell asleep. I had a much better sleep because I didn’t move a bit and that was good. Then we woke up and got ready to go and have breakfast and it was at the New York Bakery we had toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns it was delicious. When we finished we went back to our cabins and cleaned up and put our bags with our clothes up into a shed for the buses to collect because after our school day at St Peters denominational school we are going home. We did The same routine by getting dressed in our 1850s school clothes. We lined outside our school gates in boys and girls lines and height order then our headmistress came in and took us inside as we stood up before she said “sit”. We did our prayer of the day as the school was a church on the weekends. We went on with our writing with ink and nib pen. Then we also did a bit more of our sewing. Then it was recess and we had cookies and apples and did a bit more of skipping with teddy bear and we went through the alphabet to see how many alphabet rounds they could do. Then we went inside and we did a bit more handwriting and sewing it was lunchtime for lunch we had salad rolls, popcorn and fruit. We had a bit more time as it wasn’t 1 o’clock yet me and my friends walked around and we watched peppermint drops being made and got to have a taste. There was a fire so we went there because it was cold. Then it was 1 o’clock and we were already at the gates ready to go inside. As it always was we had to go into boys and girls lines and height order then we went in and gave our school fees I gave the headmistress soap. She got 9 Apple pies as payment fees and it was funny. Then we had a break before the vicar came . The vicar came and we showed showed him our 16 times tables, our writing with ink and our sewing he says it was good and then The vicar didn’t like how we were being treated and told the headmistress to be stricter and so she showed him that she can buy giving Gus the cane outside then he left because we did a good job. Then the headmistress gave out some certificates and we asked her questions about her job as a teacher and showing people what it was like on the goldfields in the school and out of school. Then we went and changed back into our casual clothes and hoped on the bus home, we didn’t stop anywhere because it was already 3:00pm and takes 2 hours to get to our school and our Parents for meeting us at school and are picking us up at 5:30.

The End

Buddy reading

July26

Today in house my body and I read “All through the year” we were reading because

Last week it was carey celebrates  literature and we were reading with each other.

it was about the year and having fun in the months.  We thought the book was interesting because it had all of the months.  What positive learner attribute (PLA) were used  I think they used connectedness because in each of the months they were doing things with others.  We connected with the book because we do most of the things during the months

Carey celebrations

July26

Carey Celebrates Literature Reflection

My favourite part of the Carey celebrates literature was probably all the activities that were set up and especially the colouring in because I helped organise that activity and that was bery popular because of all the little children.

I also enjoyed Mark Wilson coming and talking about the history of himself and how you can find about your history and make a story about it. Mark Wilson also writes books about his history and what happened back then (it was very cool). He gave us a lesson on drawing and we learnt how to draw soldiers and do lines and make them into very cool drawings. And I also mean

Market Ads

June12

Here is a video of a ad for the Market.

Year 5 Market Reflections

June12

Team work

For the Year 5 Market our team showed great team work. We showed great team work when we were making the products. We did listen to each other, helped out our team mates when we needed support, we contributed to the team, HAD FUN and at the end of it we made a great company. For example .  When we went to Taylor’s house to make some of the products we all helped each other if we weren’t doing it right or if we were struggling.

What we/I could of done better

If we had another try at the Market I think we should of made a few for items and make a more interesting activity because no one played our ping pong activity. We didn’t make enough items because we sold out before the Year 6’s came.

What we would keep the same

I would keep the same my teammates and how we kept on persevering to get things done. Even though we had some trouble with communications at the start and became a great business and sold out before the year sixes came, we made $225.40 roundabout in total all of the Year fives made $6008.60.

Meeting James MB for real

When i first heard James I thought it might of be a miner Injury but then I realised that it was worse and all of that was from one big punch in the head. Taylor and I were actually sad that he had been through something that terrible. And you’re strapped in a wheelchair for life.

PLA WE USED

For the whole unit of the the Market and that includes the day, we used

-communication

We had to use a-lot of communication on the actual Market day to serve the customers/student

-Knowledge

It is super important to know change with money in a business because if someone gives you $5 note and the item costs $3 then you have to know what change to give them.

-Resilience

I think resilience because if someone wants a refund you can’t get upset because it sort of then means they didn’t like the product.

What I have learnt

Over this unit i have learnt about

financial papers ,ads-print ads and videos.

How long it takes to get a business approved and how people are as a good team member.

You need to keep trying because you might not get it right the first time and then you make a great one and keep on going till you have enough product.

Challenge/s/

We had some trouble with making the string balloons because some if them deflated.

Some of us could not tie balloons but we had to learn how to because we had 2 items with balloons and tying them and at the end we could

Highlights on the day

Meeting James. Working in a “company’. Seeing what other groups made.  selling out before the Year 6s came
